About Course

8-week program starting 30th October
5pm to 6pm every week

In this term, students strengthen their understanding of number systems and how to use them in everyday problem solving. The program focuses on building confidence with numbers, measurement, and basic data handling — giving students the essential tools to think logically and calculate accurately.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this term, students will:

  • Develop strong number sense and computation skills

  • Understand how to measure, compare, and record everyday quantities

  • Begin interpreting data through basic graphing and visual representation

  • Meet key NESA Stage 2 outcomes for:

    • NS – Number & Algebra (Number and Structure)

    • MA – Measurement & Space (Measurement and Geometry)

    • DA – Data & Probability (Data and Analysis)

Course Content

Week 1: Intro – Place Value Thousands

  • Week 1 Quiz: Place Value (Thousands)

Week 2: Addition and Subtraction of 4-digit Numbers
Assesses mastery of formal vertical algorithms and regrouping strategies for solving 4-digit addition and subtraction problems.

Week 3: Multiplication and Division Foundation (copy)
Students will explore the fundamental relationship between multiplication and division using visual models (arrays), fact families, and repeated addition. This lesson builds the conceptual foundation for efficient strategies and fact recall.

Week 4: Times Tables Mastery

Week 5: Measuring & Conversions (cm/m)

Week 6: Area – Informal Units & Grids
Assesses knowledge of area as the amount of surface a shape covers, using informal units such as grid squares or stamps. Students apply basic counting and conversion from halves to wholes, and understand the importance of using consistent, standard units.

Week 7: Mass (Comparing & Basic Units)
Assesses knowledge of mass units, comparison, and the 1kg = 1000g conversion rule.

Week 8: Simple Fractions Quiz (1/2, 1/3, 1/4)
Assesses ability to recognise, name, and find fractions of a quantity, including identifying parts of a whole, comparing common fractions, and solving simple fraction-of-a-number problems.

Week 9: Creating & Interpreting Simple Graphs

Week 10: Revision
